#1. District 2, Thao Dien French Restaurant Lupin Bistrot et Vins Review
French restaurant Lupin Bistrot et Vins is located in an alley near Thao Dien Pearl, a commercial-residential building in Thao Dien, District 2. Run by a French owner, this restaurant is particularly popular with Westerners living nearby. While prices are on the higher side, the pleasant atmosphere and high-quality dishes make it a charming place where you can enjoy a satisfying meal.

The restaurant's interior appears more spacious than it appears from the outside, with high ceilings and a rather upscale atmosphere. The staff are well-trained, and I felt like I was being treated with respect throughout my meal.

The tables were immaculate, and when I visited in the evening, wine glass and water glass were laid out as standard, along with small plate. Each cup and plate was engraved with the restaurant's name, demonstrating the meticulous attention to detail in the tableware.

Lupin Bistrot et Vins doesn't give out free bread like restaurants in real France, but if you pay a table setting fee of 85,000VND per person called Couvert, you can get unlimited sourdough, butter, harissa, and water.

Before starting my meal, I ordered a glass of Pastis Maison as an aperitif. This herbal liqueur is a fairly strong French aperitif, at over 40% ABV. It can order it by the shot, but I diluted it with ice and water.

The first dish was the Cassolette de Palourdes, which I ordered as a starter. It was a dish of spicy harissa and clams simmered in white wine. It was delicious as a soup or as a dip for bread. It was a shame that the purge of the clams was not done properly, considering this isn't a cheap restaurant.

I ordered a glass of La Vieille Ferme Blanc, an inexpensive French white wine that pairs well with seafood. It was a refreshing wine with a variety of fruit flavors and moderate acidity.

For my second dish, I ordered Confit de Canard, the main course. This traditional French dish, made with cured duck leg cooked in low-temperature oil for a long time, was visually stunning, befitting a main course. It was served with demi-glace sauce.

A large platter was filled with soubise sauce, a thickened sauce made with onions and cream, topped with bacon, green beans, and duck. The demi-glace sauce was strong, so it seemed best to pour just a little bit on top.

Because it was made with cured duck leg, it was already seasoned and delicious on its own, but it was definitely better when eaten with other ingredients. The soft and sweet soubise sauce and the salty-sweet, rich, savory demi-glace sauce added even more flavor.

I ordered a glass of Crocus L'Atelier Cahors Malbec, a French red wine that pairs well with the meat. It's a deep red, spicy, and full-bodied wine that paired well with the duck dish.

For my third and final course, I ordered the dessert Mousse au Chocolat. I was impressed by the sweet chocolate mousse, which had a cool, smooth texture. Eating it with the accompanying mini madeleines, I found the combination surprisingly enjoyable.

#2. French Restaurant Lupin Bistrot et Vins - Menu
The French restaurant Lupin Bistrot et Vins has a surprisingly upscale interior compared to its exterior, and its prices are quite high. The menu consists of a starter, small plates, big plates, side dishes, and finish, and a wide selection of wines are available, making it a great pairing for a meal. While the menu includes English descriptions of the dishes, they feel a bit lacking. However, viewing photos of the restaurant's dishes on Google Maps can be a helpful guide when making your choice.

I visited for dinner alone on Saturday evening and ordered as follows:
Couvert: 85,000VND
Cassolette de Palourdes: 255,000VND
Confit de Canard: 385,000VND
Mousse au Chocolat: 185,000VND
Pastis Maison: 70,000VND
La Vieille Ferme Blanc: 150,000VND
Crocus L'Atelier Cahors Malbec: 240,000VND
Including a 5% service charge, 8% general VAT, and 10% alcohol VAT on alcohol, the total bill came out 1,563,240VND. Considering I visited in the evening and had an aperitif, two glasses of wine, a starter, a main course, and dessert, it wasn't a bad deal. The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere, the staff were friendly, and the dishes were excellent, so I was quite satisfied with my meal.
