#1. District 1, Ben Thanh Market Local Restaurant Hai Nam Chicken Rice Review
Hai Nam Chicken Rice, a local restaurant, is located in the barbershop area opposite Ben Thanh Market in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Located in the heart of the city, this restaurant is popular with both tourists and locals, offering Chinese, Malaysian, and Singaporean food at affordable prices.
My wife and I visited for dinner on a Friday evening and sat at a table set out on the street. There was also seating inside, but we preferred to dine outside and enjoy the night view of Ho Chi Minh City.
The open kitchen, with its clear view of the interior, was surprisingly clean. You'd be hard-pressed to find a cleaner one among local restaurants. Pork, duck, and chicken were hanging from the ceiling of the stall, and this also seemed cleaner than other similar shops.
When I ordered food, it came with wet wipes, pickled vegetables, and two sauces: Nuoc Mam sauce and Hai Nam Chicken Rice's Chinese BBQ sauce. The sweet, salty, and complex flavor of the BBQ sauce was definitely appealing.
My wife ordered Nuoc Sam(Ginseng Tea), and I ordered 333 beer. This inexpensive, Vietnamese beer is a refreshing, light-tasting lager. It's a decent beer that pairs well with any Vietnamese dish.
The first food was Thap Cam Nho(Assorted Meat Small). It was a varied dish, with pork belly, duck, chicken, and intestines. It was clean and flavorful, with no gamey odor, making it a great accompaniment to beer.
For our second food, my wife ordered Hu Tieu Xao Den(Stir-fried Noodles with Black Bean Sauce). It was similar to Thai Pad Thai, with wide noodles stir-fried with various seafood and vegetables in black bean sauce. The squid and shrimp used were fresh, making it truly delicious.
The third and final food was the Hu Tieu Nau Tom(Shrimp Hu Tieu), which I ordered. It was a typical southern Vietnamese style Hu Tieu, with a sweet and savory clear broth and generous toppings like shrimp and pork intestines.
Hai Nam Chicken Rice is an attractive restaurant offering a variety of Vietnamese, Chinese, Malaysian, and Singaporean food at reasonable prices. Located across from Ben Thanh Market, it's easily accessible and a must-visit during your Ho Chi Minh City tour.

Khanh Lanh: 5,000VND x 2 EA = 10,000VND
For a reasonable total of 362,000VND, I was able to enjoy a satisfying meal. Hai Nam Chicken Rice is a charming restaurant offering a variety of Vietnamese, Chinese, Malaysian, and Singaporean dishes at reasonable prices. Located across from Ben Thanh Market, it's easily accessible and a worthwhile stop during your Ho Chi Minh City tour.
